Walmart Offers $3.1 Billion Opioid Settlement
Walmart became the third retail giant to offer a multi-billion dollar settlement in opioid lawsuits this month, but maintained its innocence over allegations of allowing its pharmacies to improperly fill prescriptions.
Walmart offered $3.1 billion over the next year in an attempt to settle the legal dispute, following the November 2 announcements of pharmacy giants CVC Health and Walgreen that they would pay $5 billion each for similar reasons.
The opioid epidemic has claimed a reported 500,000 deaths in the US over the last two decades, with the rate soaring to almost 80,0000 annual deaths in recent years sparked mostly by rampant use of lab-produced fentanyl. (RT)
